Scopsblog is on Twitter!

by admin on May.09, 2009, under Professional Progress

Sure, it was a bit of a surprise when I launched Thunderbird and had an email from Twitter telling me someone had opened an account in my name, but I’m fluid man.  I went with it.

In case you haven’t noticed, you can view the last three Twitter posts in the right side bar.  If you want to see the raw feed, go here.  I’ll be using that for minor site news, so I can save the real posts for, well, real content.  (ie, not stuff like this)

Other points of interest:

  • Scop’s Blog is now bigger and better, thanks to an upgrade to Wordpress 2.7.1!  Now Dreamhost won’t yank my webpage for security vulnerabilities!  Yay!
  • Scop’s Blog is on AIM!  Add me as a friend by typing in my very original screen name, ‘Scopsblog’.  Don’t worry, I fully expect half of the messages I get to be creepy spam.
  • Scop’s Blog is on Facebook!  Join the group Scop’s Blog Fanclub, support the site and tell your friends!

Step one

As far as freelance game writers go, I’ve got a bit of a head start.  I’ve done IT work at Epic Games, I am friends with people at two different game companies, and have met one Editor-in-Chief at a major publication.  In Raleigh, North Carolina, I am at the hub of two major development studios (Epic and Red Storm), a major media outlet (The Escapist), and a number of smaller companies, like Icarus Games (plug, plug).

Yet, I still have an uphill battle ahead of me if I want to make it in this industry.  In this age of information, I can think of no better way to gauge my progress than to report it here.  Over the coming months, I will report on my ability to join the ranks of freelance game journalists.  Perhaps others will be able to use this log as inspiration and as a guide, and perhaps it will just be a chance for me to vent over my failures, and celebrate my successes.

Time will tell.
